Animal husbandry of the future of a special kind

Meat Atlas 2018: "Recipes for Better Animal Husbandry" The BUND, LE MONDE diplomatique and the Heinrich Böll Foundation regularly publish a 52-page " Meat Atlas" before the Green Week in which "facts and figures" on animals are distributed as food. The subtitle " Recipes for Better Animal Husbandry " almost sounds like a cookbook guide. In 12 lessons on meat and the world, the reader is taught what's wrong with animal husbandry. 

1. Reduced meat consumption, fewer animals and green livestock are key to global sustainability and equity .
2. Better animal husbandry only works with less meat consumption . In industrial countries meat consumption should be halved .
3. In Germany there are enough accessible and open citizens who are convinced of the reasons for lower meat consumption.
4. For the animal husbandry of the future to be socially accepted, it must be better adapted to the needs of the animals.
5. On meat and sausage, a mandatory state labeling on the type of animal husbandry should be clearly visible.
6. The approx. 60 billionPriority should be given to ensuring that EU agricultural policy flows into ecological and animal-friendly agriculture .
7. Groundwater can be protected from nitrates from animal husbandry by limiting the number of animals per area and introducing a more stringent fertilizer .
8. Animal welfare can be ensured if strict standards are defined for all livestock and the authorities control their implementation.
9. Supermarkets have a lot of room for maneuver due to their market power. Their initiatives must be ambitious and more than advertising .
10. 10. The Internet can be a lucrative marketplace for small and medium-sized businesses . They communicate intensively with their customers - this distinguishes them from the mass suppliers.
11. 11thFrom laboratory meat to insect breeding - in many ways, meat production can become more sustainable with technical means and get along without animal suffering .
12. 12. Eating the whole animal (from nose to tail) and not just its best pieces increases its appreciation and the shedding of the spurned parts all over the world goes back.
