BMEL: German rapeseed harvest at a historic low of 2.87 million tonnes or 42% below the multi-year average - rapeseed prices largely stable. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMEL) has determined a rapeseed harvest of 2.87 million tonnes on the basis of representative threshing results and nationwide cultivation of land. Compared with the previously customary quantities of around 5 million tonnes, the result of -42% is far below the multi-year average of 4.9 million tonnes in 2013-2018. The decisive influence comes from the reduced acreage of more than -35%. The reason is once in the dry phase at the previous year's cultivation date and on the other hand also in the lack of availability of specific pesticides . The area yields fell to 33.4 dt / ha nationwide or -9.6% behind the multi-year average.The range of reduced yields ranges from -1.5% in Schleswig-Holstein to -25% in Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg with -27%. An exception with an increase in yield of +2.9% is only found for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . The rapeseed harvest has fallen significantly in all growing regions. The biggest losses with -59% to -67% can be observed in Hesse, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt . The countries of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, and Thuringia range in the range between -40% to -44% . In the category of declines between -31% to -37% lie the countries Schleswig-Holstein, Saxony and Bavaria . In the range between - 22% to -29% are Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.In almost all areas, the main reason for the decline in crops was found in the reduced acreage . Regionally different reductions in yields per hectare aggravated harvest losses. For this year's rapeseed sowing , there are still regional differences in terms of sufficient soil moisture. The recent precipitation in wide areas of the federal territory, however, has eased the situation, so that it is not expected to last year's conditions. The extent to which an increase in cultivation will take place remains open, as the economic viability of rape cultivation has lost its attractiveness.
