BMEL: Preliminary harvest report 2021 with 42 million t

BMEL: preliminary harvest report for grain 42.09 million. The Ministry of Agriculture (BMEL) is presenting the preliminary harvest report for 2021. The results are based on the cultivation surveys of the Federal Statistical Office as well as the yield determinations of the so-called “special harvest determination” with around 10,000 yield samples. However, the late harvests are not yet available in some regions. Subsequent threshing results usually bring weaker yields, so that the provisional result has to be corrected downwards later. The German grain harvest is rated at 42.09 million tons, around -2.7% lower than in the previous year. Compared to the 5-year mean 2015-2020, the result is even worse by -4.8%. Compared to other harvest estimates, the BML harvest report is on the lowest level. The acreage in 2021 is -3.5% below the multi-year average, but only 0.1% compared to the previous year. The decisive factor for the decline in harvest are the area yields, which are -2.6% worse than the previous year, and are -1.3% behind the 5-year average. For wheat, the BMEL determines a quantity of 21.37 million t. A cultivation area larger by 4% is significantly reduced by the -7.3% lower yields. The result is thus -3.6%% below the previous year's level; in a five-year comparison the decrease is -9.1%. The barley harvest of 10.59 million t has delivered higher yields of 68.5 dt / ha, but the declining acreage of -7.3% reduces the total production by -1.6%. In the case of spring barley, production decreases by -18.4% due to the area. Due to a smaller area under cultivation and weaker yields, rye lost -5.2% compared to the previous year. The result is estimated at 3.33 million t. In contrast, the declining triticale area is partially offset by slightly increasing yields (+ 2.2%) of 61 dt / ha. The harvest is around 2 million t. If the cultivation area remains unchanged, the yield-related corn harvest is expected to be -1.8% lower. The total result is estimated at 3.95 million t.In view of the growing The reduced yield forecast compared to the previous year is settled at 94.2 dt / ha. There may still be potential. Oat cultivation has increased by 12.7% compared to the previous year and, with little change in yield expectations, will lead to an equally high increase in production. Despite the crop cuts, the quantities will be sufficient to secure domestic supplies in Germany. The supply shortages observed at international level have led to unusually high grain prices at harvest time. The slow progress of the harvest also contributed to the fact that the goods were only hesitantly available for subsequent supply.
