China's changed pig farming is still dependent on imports

China's restructuring of pig farming   still holds - Large pig farmers in China are announcing an increase in their production by 5 to 6 million   Pigs by the year 2020 . They want to help fill the gap in environmentally-constrained reductions of pig holdings in the restricted areas of water bodies and conurbations in Southeast China. Affected is approx. a third of Chinese pig production .The vast majority are small porpoises often with backyard. The dismantling of small populations is politically desirable, because they trigger a high environmental pollution due to the uncontrolled distribution of excrements. In addition, they are often the source of disease epidemics .   Last but not least, the systems are not very efficient in terms of production technology and economically . The advantages of local and direct supply over the hot-meat chain are, on the other hand, low. The numbers of stock replenishment are very large. On a closer look, the scale is relative to the whole Chinese pig husbandry. In China, an average of 680 million pigs have been produced over recent years compared to the EU with just under 260 million  or the USA with 125 million. The six largest companies of the Chinese pig farming produce together approx. 30 million slaughtered animals per year . This corresponds to approx. 4.5% of the production of China . The largest unit is the company Wens Foodstuff with approx. 18 million   produced pigs in 2016. This company has announced plans to increase its capacity by a further 5 million by 2020. The other five large companies have production capacities of 4 to 2 million pigs per year. From these circles are also production increases   of approx. 1 million animals. So far, pig farming in China is about 730 million pigs fell by 58 million in 2014 to 672 million in 2016. The decline corresponds to the annual capacity in Germany. For the year 2018, a 5% recovery is estimated to be 710 million pigs produced annually . The extent to which it is possible to compensate for the squeezed quantities by increasing capacity and increasing productivity is not yet certain.   The process is to be completed by the end of 2017. However, the willingness of the persons concerned is still not very pronounced. However, the restructuring problem is not exhausted by the production surplus on the production stage , but requires a considerable improvement in the logistics of processing and marketing . To date, 70% of the pigmeat   fresh in the immediate vicinity of consumers. Frozen goods reach a market share of 25%. In the future, marketing chains from the more distant regions will have to be established. This includes a closed cooling chain,   an increased proportion of processed goods, transport and distribution logistics.Even if consumption is slowed at the moment, demand is still rising. Imports will also be required in the coming years, albeit on a reduced level.
