DRV: result of last crop estimate in 2019 below multi-year average - The German Raiffeisenverband (DRV) comes to 45 million t in its last estimate of the German grain harvest . The result is better than in the previous year with approx. 38 million t, but still remains. - 6% behind a 5-year average . Comparisons with the catastrophic year 2018 provide little meaningful information. With little change in acreage, the decline in yield per hectare was usually decisive for the harvest volume. The unfavorable precipitation distribution is to be given as cause. Particularly affected was the wheat , which caused the dry period in the month of June just during the grain formation phase . At 23.2 million tonnes , the wheat harvest was more than 10% below the multi-year average. The winter barley had already largely completed its grain formation before the dry phase, so that the harvest result was +4% above average. However, the barley , which has only grown to a small extent in terms of area, has suffered; the result fell by about 17% . The rye harvest is -1.2% below the average, both due to the decline in area and the reduction in yield. Since rye is mainly cultivated on sandy soil with low water retention capacity, the precipitation deficiency has had a particularly negative effect. The triticale harvest is rated even worse for the same reasons. The harvest volume of 2.2 million tonnes will be 14% below the multi-year average. The corn harvest is still ongoing. While the threshing work in the northwest is already coming to an end, there are still large quantities in the field in the southwest .The corn harvest is expected to deliver 4.22 million tonnes , much higher than previously expected. The estimated average yield of 98.9 dt / ha is based on earlier results and makes forget the catastrophic previous year. Overall, the grain harvest was not as bad as expected in earlier estimates. The reason is the subsequent rainfall , which has improved the result. However, one should point out the large regional differences . On the weak locations in the north there were z. T. considerable harvest losses, while in the south sometimes very good harvests were achieved.
