DRV: Corrected harvest estimate 2020 - 44.6 million tons In its latest estimate of the German grain harvest, the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) comes to 44.6 million tons. The result is only slightly better than in the previous year, but remains behind a 5-year average. The acreage is 2.2% below the previous year in 2020, but will be offset by the higher yield expectation of +2.9%. The average area yield is estimated at 71.5 dt / ha. However, there are still reservations due to the lack of rainfall. The wheat harvest is estimated at an average of 22.4 million t or 2.9% below the previous year. The main reason is the 6.6% decline in space, which is not offset by the 3.8% higher yield expectations . 76.8 dt / ha are estimated per hectare . As a rule, the wheat tends to be in good locations with better water storage capacity. The winter barley harvest is said to be -4% worse than last year. Overall, a 6.3% higher result is expected for this summer grain. With less beer, less brewing barley is needed. The rye harvest is expected to be 11.9% better than in the weak previous year. The triticale harvest fell by 1.9% compared to the previous year. The decisive factor is the 3.2% decline in cultivation. Higher earnings expectations compared to the previous year cannot compensate for this. The corn area is expected to be 10.7% larger this year than in previous years. Combined with a higher yield estimate of 7.8%, the maize harvest is expected to be 19.3% higher than the weak result of the previous year. It is still unclear whether the planned grain corn areas will actually be threshed due to the shortage of basic feed .
