1.GDT auction in April 2020 delivers an average result of +1.2% The first Apr. 2020 auction of the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) ended with an average result of 1.2% . The main pillars were the surcharges for butter and whole milk powder. MMP once again landed with moderate discounts in the negative range. At 20,302 t, sales were again lower than in the previous auctions. Whole milk powder (VMP) was able to achieve considerable surcharges of +0.4 to +2.9% for the pre-auction throughout all delivery months. The series of price reductions has been interrupted since the beginning of February. As the largest buyer, China has apparently stocked up on purchases. Skimmed milk powder (MMP) achieved a negative result with an average value of -0.8% , but is within reason. The fallen price level is still in the narrow midfield over several years. Butterfein achieved a further upturn with a surcharge of + 0.4% .A correction downwards was only made in 2 delivery months. The reasons are the limited offer of this auction. A certain precautionary behavior can be seen. Normal butter received the highest surcharges in a range of +3.9 to 5.6% with an additional 4.5% surcharge. This moves the fat product further towards the upper average and ensures stability. In view of the turmoil in other international agricultural markets, this year's GDT auction sent a positive sign of price stabilization . The reduced turnover and a certain precautionary measure may have played a role. At EEX Leipzig , prices for butter and skimmed milk powder continue to tend to be weak, but remain within a comparatively manageable range. Rising supply quantities in the milk powder sector and scarce supplies in view of short-term butter requirements shape the market situation.
