FAO and IFA: Increasing Fertilizer Phosphates Worldwide - Phosphate Prices Falling Strong Consistent forecasts for the supply of fertilizer phosphates have been published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Fertilizers Association (IFA) in their latest estimates for the years 2020-2023. Of the total amount of raw phosphate transported , 87% are available for the purposes of fertilizer production. The remaining industrial use increases only to a small extent. For 2020, it is expected that the increase in production will be greater than the increase in consumption. The key driver comes from North Africa , whose export surplus is set to rise from 80% to more than 91%. In contrast, the import deficit of North and South America increases from 40 to 46% of their demand. North America has a slight surplus, while Central and South America, with low self-generation, provide the main import demand. In Western Asia , large export surpluses are around 90%. By contrast, South Asia has a significant import requirement of 83%. East Asia can cover its own use only to 55% itself. In Europe, self-generation in 2020 is just enough to secure consumption. The small export surplus that was still available in previous years should fall to zero in 2020. While the price of raw phosphate in the main production region of Morocco remained at almost $ 100 / t in the first half of 2019, prices have recently fallen by almost 20%. Diammone phosphate prices have taken part of the decline.
