Paris: Rapeseed rates just over € 800 / t - just a flash in the pan ?! Rapeseed prices on the Paris stock exchange briefly exceeded the mark of € 800 / t. On the Winnipeg Stock Exchange in Canada, the corresponding canola prices are traded around € 710 / t. In both cases, prices have risen recently. The current producer prices for rapeseed in this country show a wide range between 670 and 770 € / t at the beginning of Jan. 22, depending on the location. In view of the extremely tight supply situation on the global rapeseed market , which has been known for months, the question arises as to what triggered the recent price increase. As usual, the driving force lies in the increased price of palm oil as the market leader in the vegetable oil sector. After a brief period of weakness, the prices rose again to € 1,100 / t in mid-December 2021. The rising price of crude oil is having an impact in the background. The assessment of the future supply situation is also changing for the second market leader, soy. In South America, the La Niña weather phenomenon becomes noticeable with increasing drought. The previously high harvest estimates in Argentina and south-east Brazil are already being reduced noticeably. The latest prices for soybeans and soybean oil in Chicago show hectic swings at a higher level, while soybean meal is already back on a downward trend.
