Russia's pork production is growing - Miratorg plans to double capacity Two new large slaughterhouses with an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes of slaughter weight are to be built in Russia. In two stages, a first commissioning in 2020 or a year later is expected. A total of 4.5 million pigs per year should be slaughtered . 15 new pig farms are to be built. Investor is the third biggest meat company in Russia Miratorg , which is headquartered in the Kursk region . An investment amount of $ 2.75 billion is earmarked.Further projects are planned. The Kursk region is directly adjacent to the Belgorod area , which has a 1.6 million t slaughter position in Russia . These are cattle, pigs and poultry slaughtering. The Kursk region is sparsely populated with 38 inhabitants per square kilometer. New emerging jobs are welcome. The region has high-yield black soils so that the feed can be produced directly on site . The large areas are also suitable for absorbing the resulting slurry .The holding company Miratorg is aiming at a total slaughtering rate of 1.1 million tonnes by the year 2022 and could place itself in the first place of meat companies in Russia. The investment projects are supported by the political side. In this way, the goal of achieving 100% self-sufficiency in the meat market will be achieved in the foreseeable future. The poultry sector is close and there is only 300,000 tonnes left in the pork market, which are still being imported.The situation on the beef market is somewhat more difficult, the progress of which is much less dynamic. In any case, the times are over when Russia - including Germany - has introduced up to 750,000 pork . Even at the end of the current import bar, Russia will no longer be dependent on the import of pig and poultry meat . On the contrary, there is the intention to enter the export business. The focus is on China. However, there is still a long way to tackle the problem of virulent African swine fever . In any case, exports will not be possible for the next 2 to 3 years.
