US acreage As of June 2019: + 2% corn, - 10% soybeans, - 5% wheat Corn prices plummet, wheat collapses, soybean prices buoyed The recent survey of US acreage is compelling . After weeks of rainfall, there was great uncertainty about how big the actually ordered areas would be. However, the results released by the USDA caused great confusion and incomprehension. Expectations were trimmed to significantly lower numbers. The area intended for GM maize was reported as 83,595 acres (33. 8 million ha) . That's 2% more than last year. However, the uncertainty is great, because until the last pusher was trying to catch up the seed delays. A larger acreage is not synonymous with a larger crop. In this year especially the late beginning must be considered, which presses on the yield considerably. However, the weather will be decisive for the months of July and August . It is estimated that there is a reduction of -33 million tonnes or just under -10% from the previous year. For wheat , it has been repeatedly confirmed that total acreage for wheat has fallen by a further 5% . At 38.4 million acres (15.5 million ha), US wheat production is below the level of 100 (!) Years ago. The harvest, which has already started, will remain unchanged at approx. 50 million t estimated. The first Druschergebnisse fell but different. Soybean cultivation is said to have shrunk by 10% . In addition to the low soybean prices , the long-lasting rains were responsible for the sowing delay and prevention. Compared to corn, however, the bean is late sowing compatible, so that quite some corrections are conceivable. Despite reservations about possible corrections, the US soybean harvest is only estimated at 103 million tonnes , compared to 120 million tonnes in the previous year.We look forward to the next USDA report on 10 July 19.
