Mar 2021 USDA: Global oilseed production estimated broadly unchanged. In its latest March 2021 edition, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has reduced global oilseed production to 596 million t , around 1 million t higher than estimated in the previous month. The majority of the increase in concentration is due to soybeans, which amount to just under 362 million t. come. In contrast, the sunflowers are rated somewhat lower. The rapeseed harvest is estimated to be slightly higher than the previous month and minor changes have been made to the other oilseeds. On the consumption side , the numbers are expected to continue to rise for almost all oilseeds. The dominant trend is the Chinese consumption trend with a slightly reduced 134 million tons, around 80% of which consists of imports. The Chinese demand has a decisive influence on the international market and price developments in the oilseeds sector. In the end, stocks are expected to decrease to 96.5 million t or -12.6%. This is the lowest level in over 5 years. At 18.7% of the final stock of consumption, the supply figure is well below the long-term average. The cuts in the relevant soy sector are due to the lower Argentinian harvest , which was again reduced to 47.5 million t due to the drought. The Brazilian harvest, which is coming to an end, was increased again to 134 million t .; however, drought damage in the sowing phase and high rainfall at harvest time are still to be assessed critically. On the demand side , China, with around 100 million tonnes of soybean imports, is of decisive importance for the market and price. The deliveries came again increasingly from Brazil. A possible weather-related smaller Brazilian harvest could give rise to further price increases. The slightly increased global rapeseed harvest also leads to rising prices when demand increases. The rapeseed rates are usually largely determined by the market leaders soy and palm oil. The rising price of crude oil is having an impact in the background. On the Chicago stock exchange , the prices in the soy complex fell briefly. In Paris the rapeseed price fell from 520 to 509 € / t. . Price stabilization has not yet occurred.
