MARS: unfavorable sowing conditions for Ukraine and southern Russia
The agro-meteorological Institute of the European Union MARS has found critical growth areas for agricultural products in Europe due to its climate data records.
For the EU is concerned particularly Poland, that in the period from Sept. 19 to 31 Oct. 15 both went through a dry phase and has experienced a cold wave. Also in some neighbouring countries, the optimum sowing dates were not always met.
Heavy rain at the wrong time fell in the South-Eastern European countries , which were more urgently needed in the summer months. Partly, the corn harvests were hampered. The rain fronts retreated into Italy to the South East of France.
However, the sowing of winter crops in the main production areas of Germany, France and Great Britain were affected hardly significant. However, it measured was too wet and too cold on the multi-annual average.
The Ukraine and the southern part of Russia with the main growing regions for winter wheat are especially hard hit. The dry phase has affected the timely sowing. The persistent cold wave loading and prevents a brisk growth of the seed, so an out of stock can develop. In both cases, it must be assumed that higher rates of Dewinterizing is expected. The possible seeds of summer brings our experience significantly lower yields.
The EU cereal yields confirmed largely in accordance with the estimate in the previous month. There is a 9% weaker earnings level compared to the previous year and just below the 5-year average. Especially out the income drop in maize rd. 21, and rye and Triticale stands around 12% or just under 10% in comparison to the previous year.
