Coceral forecasts EU grain harvest 2022 lower than the previous year by 1.25% The umbrella association of European grain and oilseed traders (COCERAL) estimates an EU grain harvest of 281 million t (previous year) on the basis of the cultivated areas known to date and reduced average yield assumptions 285 million t). With an insignificantly increased acreage , the expectation of lower area yields is decisive for the result. Declining harvests are expected in France (-3%), Spain (-6.5%), Romania (-15.5%) and the Czech Republic (-5%) in particular. Increasing results are forecast for Sweden (+ 13.4%), Hungary (12%) and the Baltic states. Germany's grain harvest in 2022 is expected to improve only marginally to 42.8 million t (previous year 42.3 million t). The EU wheat harvest is expected to total 128.9 million this year.t fall to 125.4 million t due to earnings. The barley harvest is estimated to be around 1 million t lower at 54.5 million t. Rye and oats are said to give slightly higher results. In the case of the other cereal types , only minor changes compared to the previous year are anticipated. The rather early assessment of the 2022 harvest still contains a host of reservations , especially with regard to weather developments. Scarcely available fertilizers and extremely high fertilizer prices , however, provide sufficient grounds for assuming below-average yield expectations.
