DBV: disappointed German grain harvest

The German farmers Association (DBV) classifies off German grain harvest to 43.5 million tonnes. In his most recent crop forecasts Mid Aug. 2016 the German farmers Association (DBV) comes to a disappointing result only 43.5 million tons grain. Keep back the harvest by almost 11% behind the previous year and 7.7% after a 5 years average. Cultivation area reduced by 2.5% it primarily was the sharply sloping Flächenerträge of average -8.8%, the instrumental to the below-average results have helped. With just under 23 million tonnes provides the wheat the largest on the German grain harvest. An almost 11% yield waste last year in connection with a limited growing area provided a production decline of - 12.6%in similar magnitude also the barley harvest fell back. Summer and winter barley together contest almost a quarter of German crops. Even the robust grains like rye and Triticale were able to against the not enforce harsh weather. The yield dropped to 9.6-12%. The loss of earnings on this scale were before the harvest not expected.   A cool and wet spring promises generally good yields. This year the crops in many parts of Germany were really oversaturated and therefore cold floors. Also lacked the continuous precipitation and severe weather events for the yield important sunlight. Have, however, the consequences of Dewinterizing damage in the Northeast and one to subsequent drought for massive earnings by up to 30% for the major crops of winter wheat and barley led. In the often traffic-wet and low-oxygen soils the root system of the crops has can often not fully evolve, impacting negatively on the nutrient intake of the plants. Therefore operations on high revenue sites that convert their advantage of better water retention capacity of soils in high yields in years, with average rainfall, are affected by particularly significant declines in earnings. The rain prevented an optimal inventory management. So the navigability of the land was either not given or the ongoing rainfall do not allow the timely implementation of phytosanitary measures. It caused loss of earnings as a result of which occurred increased disease and pest pressure also. Rainfall recurring to the last make the farmers in the so far have not yet fully completed harvest significant problems. Zwiewuchs complicated with the cereal, growing through weeds and grain stocks in the stock the progress of the harvest work. Ears broken off can no longer be harvested and contributed to declines in yield. The quality of winter wheat is very different. The crude protein composition and the so-called case numbers to determine the quality of the back are of importance for the use of wheat as bread wheat. Especially the case numbers take off further due to the adverse weather conditions and thus delayed harvest. Only cheap food goods is often made from original valuable bread wheat. Despite the declining volumes, the prices rise only marginally. The better than average supplied world market prevents one to cover expenses necessary price increase.
