DBV estimates grain harvest at 40.9 million t or – 5% below previous year In its July issue, the German Farmers' Association (DBV) estimates the German grain harvest at just under 41 million t. Compared to the previous year, the result is -5% lower; in a 5-year comparison, the estimate is -3% lower. 10 years ago, harvests of between 45 and over 50 million tons were still being brought in. The acreage is -2% smaller than in 2022. The average yield per hectare is expected to be -5% less than the previous year. At around 20.8 million tonnes, wheat accounts for around half of the total harvest. The acreage was reduced by 2% in 2023; the winter wheat yields are estimated at 72.4 dt/ha (previous year 76.8 dt/ha). Winter and spring barley together deliver around 10.6 million t, similar to the previous year. The rye harvest is 2% larger due to cultivation, while a 1% reduction is expected for triticale . The estimate for corn is still quite difficult to quantify in view of the upcoming growth phase.
