DRV: 4th grain harvest estimate 2022 - improvement to 43.24 million t In its 4th harvest estimate in mid-June, the German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) increased German grain production in 2022 to 43.24 million t compared to the previous month. The result is around +2.5% above the previous year or +1.68% above the 5-year average. With a little increase in cultivation area compared to the previous year, the higher yield expectation of +1.7% on average is decisive. On average, an area yield of 71.2 dt/ha is estimated. The yield estimates range from -8.4% (maize) to +11.2% (oats) compared to the previous year. With a share of around 50%, wheat has the greatest influence on the overall result. According to the findings of the Stat. Federal Office increased by +1.2% compared to the previous year. The DRV predicts an increase of + 4.6% to 76.4 dt/ha for the yield per hectare. Overall, the wheat harvest is expected to increase to 22.65 million t (+5.9% compared to the previous year); in a 5-year comparison, an increase of approx.+1.7% expected. The second largest type of grain is winter and spring barley with a share of 25%. The area under cultivation was increased by +2.8% compared to the previous year, but the area yield is expected to be -1.7% lower. A total production of 10.5 million t is forecast. In the case of spring barley (brewing barley), a strong increase in production of 26.3% is expected after the setback of the previous year due to area (+20.2%) and yield (+5.1%). Maize sowing took place on a +2.7% larger area - lower than expected. Expected yields of 94.9 dt/ha are well below last year's good result of 103.6 dt/ha. Accordingly, the K. maize harvest is expected to be -5.9% smaller, but remains well above the 5-year average. The cultivation of oats decreased by -3.9%. But the yields per hectare are estimated at 45.9 dt/ha, which is 11.2% higher than the previous year. The total harvest increases by 6.8%.The cultivation of rye was reduced considerably by -5.4% ; Higher earnings expectations that were still harbored in the spring have been reduced to -0.4%. The areas for triticale have remained almost the same, but yields are expected to increase by +4.7%. The harvest is expected to grow by 4.6% compared to the previous year. The DRV estimates are based on the most recent area surveys by the Stat. Federal Office of May 15, 2022, some of which have changed from the December 2021 survey. The DRV estimated the area yields taking into account the most recent vegetation development. The cooperative grain trade expects the start of this year's harvest in the early threshing areas for winter barley in ten to fourteen days . The Ukraine crisis continues to cause great uncertainty about future price levels.
