COCERAL estimates EU cereal harvest 2016 on 293,4 million tons - so far lowest result With advancing harvest progress the EU harvest estimates are getting smaller and smaller. The umbrella organisation of the European grain and oilseed trader COCERAL comes in his recent Sep. 16 estimate on only 293,4 million t. Other, but earlier forecasts range from 296 to 305 million tonnes. Weak last year, the harvest was at 310 million tonnes. The COCERAL result is based on a slightly increased harvested area, but a significantly reduced Flächenertrag of only 51.4 dt / ha compared to the already weak previous year with 54.6 million tons. The main cause for the sharp decline in harvest is reflected in French harvest only 54,54 million tonnes . France was about 15 million t in 71.7 and 70 million tonnes in the previous two years. In particular the French wheat harvest has strong under the high amounts of precipitation suffered. Instead of 40.9 million tonnes in 2015, only 28.5 million of common wheat are harvested this year. The Flächenertrag fell by 79.3 on 54.5 dt / ha. This is still far below-average quality of French wheat. Also the German grain harvest with a score of 45.6 million tonnes compared to the previous year with 48.9 million remains below average t. So extensive are matches with numbers of other treasure institutions. Crop losses amounting to about 2 million tons are used also for Great Britain . The British reach only 22.3 million tons. , There are Member States with significantly better results than in previous years. Spain with a larger 4 million tons harvest includes 1 priority of 22.6 million tonnes. The high rainfall especially benefited the weak soils in the Iberian Peninsula this year. Harvest increases are expected in the South-Eastern European countries. Romania stands above all with a plus of approximately 1 million tonnes to 19.6 million tonnes. However, there are still risks due to the high proportion of maize in this case by about 50%. The recent heat wave could have contributed to crop damage in the grain filling stage. The restrictions also apply to Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia. Poland crop is up 1 million tonnes to 28 million tonnes estimated. Despite smaller harvest area, the higher Flächenertrag of an average 36.3 dt / ha creates the necessary balance. On the Scandinavian countries including the Baltic States all fared worse something. There lacked a sufficient exposure to sunlight due to the clouds to deliver high yields.
