DRV: German grain harvest 2% higher than last year, but remains below average The German Raiffeisenverband (DRV) is slightly above the previous year's level in terms of its grain harvest. An increase in earnings of 2.9% is expected to more than offset the declining area of 0.9%. With almost 46.3 million tonnes , the association has slightly adjusted its forecast. The reason for this is above all the somewhat higher harvest expectations for wheat and winter grapes in the north and north-east of Germany. The current forecast remains well below the average of the last five years of 47.9 million tonnes. With the exception of the north and north-east, the barley harvest has advanced well. However, it is always interrupted by partial rainfall. The results achieved so far are classified as average in terms of quantity and quality. With a 1% lower cultivation area compared to the previous year and a 2% increase in earnings expectations Will be 10.8 million tonnes estimated in advance. In the division spring barley increasing by 7.9% crop amounting to 1.9 million tons is expected. The first wheat stocks have also been threshed. However, it is still too early for a robust first assessment of quantities and qualities. For wheat, the DRV estimates an amount slightly above the forecast of the previous month at almost 25.4 million tonnes . The result is 3.8 percent higher than in the previous year. In the case of rye , the association remains unchanged at a good 3 million tonnes. The tritical harvest is expected to be 6.5% higher than in the previous year. In the case of maize , the DRV still expects a result of around 3.8 million tonnes or 4.2% less than in the previous year. The smaller area is decisive. The German rapeseed crop is still growing to approx. 4.8 million t projected. Although the result is higher than in the weak prior year, it is lagging behind the multi-year average values of well over 5 million tonnes
