MARS predicts further cheap cereal yields in the EU 2014
The agro-meteorological Institute of the European Union (MARS) maintains its forecasts cheaper cereal yields in the average of the EU countries. The statements are based on a comprehensive climate data model, the results of which have been compared with previous earnings statements. For the latest forecast, the average results of the years 2009 to 2013 are basis for comparison.
Regional differences are behind the average assessment. Clearly lower yields are in Spain as a result of a prolonged drought expected. The South-East of the Iberian Peninsula. is particularly hard hit but also Portugal's neighboring regions are at a disadvantage.
To low rainfall are also the cause of reduced yields in Slovakia and Slovenia.
In contrast, the majority of the other new EU Member States has experienced favourable climate conditions. Order more than 4% higher yield expectations are measured by the multi-annual average.
Exception are the Baltic countries, where the temperatures have fallen in the vegetation period, well below the average. The grain filling has suffered. Only average yields are expected.
Above-average yields are expected also in Sweden, Great Britain, Ireland and Portugal.
Predicted average earnings expectations despite regional and local variations in the large areas of France, Germany and Italy. Weather maps show some regions with high and heavy precipitation, only marginally affect the overall picture of the national yield averages.
The EU Commission based earnings forecasts by MARS for their crop estimates. The first post-harvest actual hectare be built gradually. The time has come for MARS, then to check their treasure model and refine.
