MARS: Yield estimates 2020 mostly corrected downwards In its Aug report, the Agrometeorological Institute of the EU Commission (MARS) corrected the yield estimates slightly compared to the previous month. In a five-year comparison, the winter fruits performed below average, while the summer fruits performed above the five-year average. Total grain is approx. 4.4% below the multi-year average and slightly below the previous year's figure. Wheat has suffered the most. MARS estimates the EU average yield to be 3.8% below the 5 year average. The winter barley also lost its yield with -4.2%. MARS estimates the hectare yield of rapeseed to be 3.3% lower than in a multi-year comparison. Due to its high drought tolerance, rye has been able to hold its own quite well. The yields are estimated to be 4.8% higher than the 5-year average. The summer fruits cut quite cheap.Spring barley is said to have delivered 9.1% higher yields and grain maize is expected to yield 5.6% higher yields based on the 5-year average. The area yields of sunflowers are even estimated to be 6.4% higher. However, the green corn remains significantly below the previous year's values.
