Matif with slight growth

Mexico buys 165,000 tons of US corn

Prices for maize on the Matif in Paris were friendly at the closing bell. The front month of June rose by 1 euro/t and the follow-up contract also closed firmer than on Friday at a price of 198.50 euros/t. The situation on the cash markets remains manageable. Prices were unchanged at the start of the week. On the CBoT, maize headed south again yesterday. Last week's export inspections show that 1.3 million tons of corn were loaded, around 7.7% less than in the previous week. Mexico was the largest buyer of US corn with around 430,000 tons. Overall, the current marketing year remains a strong corn export year. At 28.6 million tons, total exports are around a third higher than the volume at this time last year. Price support was provided by the announcement of a further export deal with Mexico for 165,000 tons. The fact that maize contracts nevertheless left the session with a red sign is mainly due to the stronger US dollar. There are currently signs of marginal losses for maize in pre-market trading.
