Declining maize cultivation in Germany

Ukraine expects 27 million tons of maize harvestq

Corn showed no consistent direction yesterday and mainly moved sideways. There was little impetus. In its second harvest estimate, the German Raiffeisen Association has slightly increased maize production compared to the March estimate and now expects a harvest volume of 4.009 million tons. In the previous year, 4.49 million tons were harvested. New forecasts for the coming maize harvest also came from Ukraine yesterday. The Ministry of Agriculture is expecting a harvest of 27 million tons. Yields per hectare are expected to be better than in the previous year and will therefore be able to compensate for the significant decline in acreage of around 4.5 percent. Yesterday, maize went south on the CBoT. Corn sowing continues to make progress in the USA and is currently running somewhat faster than last year. New production figures for ethanol are expected today. Most recently, ethanol production was lower than last week. Pre-market corn contracts in Chicago are showing a slightly negative trend today.
