US maize sowing making good progress

Corn contracts on Euronext/Matif did not present a uniform picture yesterday, but most of them headed south. The front month of June closed at 204.25 euros/t, 2.25 euros/t lower than on Monday. At the wholesale level, maize prices are rising this week. In South Doldenburg, 211 euros/t were quoted most recently. On the CBoT, contracts maintained their upward trend and rose accordingly. US sowings are currently progressing well and are slightly ahead of last year's pace. Heavy rainfall has been reported for the coming week in the Corn Belt, where the pace is likely to slow. The US dollar has weakened again somewhat, which should improve export activities. In the trade dispute with Mexico over the import of genetically modified corn, a round of mediation between Mexico, the US and Canada has been announced for September. Pre-market contracts in Chicago are slightly weaker today.
