DRV with 3rd estimate of the German grain and rapeseed harvest 2025
The German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) estimates that the German grain harvest in 2025 will be 40.7 million tons higher in the 3rd estimate compared to the previous year at around 39 million tons. This is due to the increase in acreage of +3.1% and higher yield expectations of +1.0%. On average, just under 69 dt/ha (previous year 68.3 dt/ha) are expected to be threshed.
The increases are still comparatively high against the backdrop of the previous year's weak results. In a 5-year comparison, however, the estimated 2025 harvest will fall short of the medium-term average by -3.45 %.
Wheat is grown on 48% of the total grain area. A harvest of 21.02 million tons is expected in 2025 due to a 10.5% increase in acreage and 2.8% higher yields per hectare. This would be +13.6% compared to the weak previous year. In a 5-year comparison, however, it is -0.92% less.
The cultivation of barley has fallen by -6.6 compared to the previous year. However, this year's yields are expected to be +0.9 % higher. Overall, this results in a harvest volume of 9,994 million tons -5.7 % below the previous year. In a 5-year comparison, however, the result is -8.3% lower.
The area under maize is expected to be slightly smaller (-1.3 %). At -3.3, yield forecasts are significantly below the previous year's level. Nevertheless, the estimated result is +6.9 % below the multi-year average.
The rye harvest is expected to be +1.1 % higher than the previous year due to acreage and yield, but at -24 % it will remain well below the 5-year average.
The triticale harvest is also expected to be -0.4 % lower due to unchanged areas and lower yield expectations. In a multi-year comparison, however, the result is considerably lower at -24 %.
An 18 % larger area but -6 % lower yields are expected to lead to a +10.5 % larger oat harvest.
The DRV estimates the German rapeseed harvest at around 3.83 million tons compared to the previous year's 3.6 million tons. This is due to a +1.5 % increase in acreage and a 4.1 % higher yield/ha.
The estimate is based on the winter seed areas determined by the Federal Statistical Office and DRV calculations for summer cereal cultivation. The yield forecasts are based on statistical evaluations and supplementary estimates based on the sowing status.
