DRV with 4th estimate of the German grain and rapeseed harvest 2025
The German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) estimates that the German grain harvest in 2025 will be 41.4 million tons in the 4th estimate, up on the previous year's figure of around 39 million tons. In the March forecast, the result was still at 40 million tons. This is due to the increase in acreage of +3.1 % and the higher yield expectations of +2.8 %. On average, just under 70.2 dt/ha (previous year 68.3 dt/ha) are expected to be threshed.
The increases are comparatively high against the backdrop of the previous year's weak results. In a 5-year comparison, however, the estimated 2025 harvest will fall short of the medium-term average by around -1.4 %.
Wheat is grown on 48 % of the total grain area. A harvest of 21.52 million tons is expected in 2025 due to a 10.5% increase in acreage and 5.3% higher yields per hectare. Compared to the weak previous year, this would be +16.3% more; in a 5-year comparison, however, the increase is only +1.43%.
The cultivation of barley has fallen by -6.6% compared to the previous year. However, this year's yields are expected to be +2.1 % higher. Overall, this results in a harvest volume of 10,112 million tons or -4.6 % below the previous year. In a 5-year comparison, however, the result is -7% lower.
The area under maize is expected to be slightly smaller (-1.3 %). At -4.4, yield forecasts are well below the previous year's level. The total harvest is estimated to be -5.7 % below the previous year's result. In a multi-year comparison, however, the figure is +7.5 %.
Rye acreage is expected to be -1.1 % lower and yields per hectare +2.7 % higher than in the previous year: Total net is expected to be +1.6 % above the previous year. In a 5-year comparison, however, the result is almost 20 % below the average.
The triticale harvest is forecast to be +1.1 % higher with an almost unchanged area and higher yield expectations. In a multi-year comparison, however, the result is considerably lower at -22 %.
An 18 % larger area but -4.4 % lower yields are expected to lead to a +12.5 % larger oat harvest.
The DRV estimates the German rapeseed harvest at around 3.92 million tons compared to the previous year's 3.6 million tons. This is due to a +1.5 % increase in acreage and a +6.6 % higher yield/ha.
