Weekly assessment of the seed status in the USA
The weekly assessment of the development of the seed level as of July 1, 2013 produced the following results:
- 67% of corn plant condition is rated as good to excellent. At the same time last year, the rating was 48%
- 96% of the soybeans have been sown (100% in the previous year). 91% of the soybeans have already emerged and 67% of the plants are rated as good to excellent. In the previous year, this figure was only 45 %.
- The winter wheat harvest is 43% complete, compared to 73% in the previous year. The condition of the remaining winter wheat crops is rated as good to excellent at 34%, but poor to very poor at 42%. The US winter wheat harvest is expected to be 20% worse.
- The emergence of spring wheat is 93 % compared to 100 % in the previous year. Only 18 % of the spring wheat has just emerged; the multi-year average for this time of year should already be 32 %.
The year 2013 will be characterized by a delayed start to development. However, with the exception of winter wheat, the US seed status can be regarded as well above average.
The next few weeks will be decisive in determining how good/bad the harvest will actually be. The decisive yield formation phase for maize, spring cereals and soybeans is imminent. The conditions are still favorable. But that was also the case last year and then came the big drought . . .
