Corn contracts on the Cbot in Chicago were unable to confirm their positive trend of the previous day and fell slightly across all dates by around 2 US cents per bushel or approx. 0.50%. In Paris, on the other hand, maize prices rose in the slipstream of wheat prices, gaining EUR 4.25 per tonne in the front month of November.
In the USA, disappointing ethanol production figures in particular had a bearish effect. The EIA's weekly report showed ethanol production of 1.071 million barrels per day, which corresponds to a decline of 27,000 barrels per day. Ethanol exports, on the other hand, increased slightly compared to the previous week. The rainfall in the Midwest also contributed to price pressure, after fears of crop losses due to the heatwave had previously caused prices to rise.
As with wheat, Canadian statisticians estimated the current maize harvest in Canada to be slightly higher than in the last publication.
