Market and price developments in selected competitor countries:
In Denmark , the comparably calculated prices of €1.50/kg will be increased by +3 ct/kg in week 10, 2025.
In Belgium, the comparably calculated prices of €1.72/kg will be increased by +1 ct/kg in CW 10, 2025.
In the Netherlands , the comparable prices of €1.75/kg will be increased by +1 ct/kg in week 10, 2025.
In France/Brittany , the comparable prices will remain unchanged at €1.86/kg . Slaughter numbers are moving only slightly; slaughter weights are becoming somewhat lighter.
In Italy, prices in week 10, 2025 have been reduced again by -2 ct/kg to €1.53/kg. Supply is sufficiently high to meet demand.
In Spain, the price was increased again by +4 ct/kg to €2.14/kg in week 10, 2025. Domestic supply must be supplemented by imports to cover demand.
In the USA/IOWA , producer prices fell slightly on Tue, 04.03. to 1.88 €/kg. Cut prices have also fallen. Slaughter numbers remain at the level reached. Forward prices for the new front month Apr.-25 have fallen slightly to €1.77/kg. Price increases are expected in the summer months, but a significant price decline in Q4 2025.
Brazil: After a brief interim high, producer prices have fallen back to €1.84/kg. Weak domestic demand during Carnival week and the weaker exchange rate were the main reasons for this. Expectations for 2025 remain positive.
China: At € 2.77/kg, prices are on the usual seasonal downward trend. The month of March-2025 is quoted at € 2.31/kg on the Dalian exchange, and prices are only expected to rise again in the summer months. Pork production is -1.6% lower than in previous years.
Conclusion: In view of the restrained demand, slaughter figures in Germany still appear to be too high for a price increase potential. In neighboring countries, with the exception of Italy, initial price improvements are feasible. The low level of pre-registrations and the end of the carnival season could bring about a change in sentiment.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
Despite lower slaughter numbers compared to previous years, the German pork market remains at a reduced price level. In contrast, prices are rising in the majority of neighboring EU member states.
Low pre-registrations in Germany could be a sign of an improvement here too.
