In the USA/IOWA , producer prices fell back to €1.70/kg on 7 April. Slaughter numbers have risen. Cut prices are currently reacting unevenly. The forward prices for the new front month of May-25 have leveled off at € 1.79/kg. Only limited price increases are expected in the summer months. The US tariff policy is slowing down exports.

Brazil: Producer prices have fallen back to €1.66/kg. Despite rising domestic prices, the weaker exchange rate contributed significantly to the decline. High expectations for 2025 are focused on the export business.

China: Prices are unchanged at € 2.58/kg, in line with the usual seasonal downward trend. The month of May 2025 is quoted at € 2.24/kg on the Dalian exchange; moderate price increases are only expected again in the summer months. Pork production in 2025 will remain below the previous year. Rising beef imports will be curbed in favor of pork demand.

Conclusion: Pork supply will remain tight to meet the rising pre-Easter demand. The mark-ups on prices in neighboring countries are correspondingly high. In Germany, only the upper range has been widened. One slaughter day will be canceled next week.

ZMP Live Expert Opinion

Rising demand in the weeks leading up to Easter meets limited supply. Slaughter figures remain at a low level. Quantities remain too low for the necessary stockpiling for the barbecue season.

Prices in neighboring production areas are largely on the rise. The EU internal market is generally in short supply.
