Brazil: Producer prices have risen to €2.11/kg. The main reason for this is the high level of exports, which are around 40% higher in Oct/Nov compared to the previous year. The exchange rate has gained some purchasing power.
China: Prices have fallen further to €3.11/kg. Supply is sufficient to meet demand. The month of Jan-2025 is traded on the Dalian exchange at prices of around €2.70/kg. The following spring months fall even further to €2.40/kg after the Chinese New Year on 29 Jan-2025. Beef consumption (7.7 kg/head) increases, pork and poultry stagnate.
Conclusion: The usual seasonal increase in live supply in the last quarter of 2024 is putting pressure on prices with limited demand. Prices in the north of the EU remain largely stable, while the high price level in the south cannot be maintained due to trade pressure. Hopes are pinned on the pre-Christmas business.
