Slaughter pig market in Germany

ASF: A total of 2,130 ASF-infected wild boars (+59 compared to the previous week) have been found in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. In some regions, the restricted areas are now being reduced.

Market and price developments in selected competitor countries:

In Denmark , prices calculated on a comparable basis increased further by +3 ct/kg to €1.98/kg in CW 21, 2025.

In Belgium, the prices calculated on a comparable basis will remain unchanged at €1.96/kg in week 21, 2025.

In the Netherlands , comparable prices will remain constant at €2.00/kg in week 21, 2025.

In France/Brittany , comparable prices will remain unchanged at €1.98/kg .

In Italy, prices were increased by a further +1 ct to €1.69/kg LG in week 21, 2025. Domestic and foreign supply remains tight.

In Spain, the price will remain unchanged at €2.32/kg in week 21, 2025. The price level has reached a temporary upper limit, as higher prices cannot be enforced with an SVG of 200% in exports.

In the USA/IOWA , producer prices settled at the equivalent of € 1.83/kg on May 20. The fluctuating dollar exchange rate causes constant price changes. Slaughter numbers have stabilized again at a higher level. Cut prices are falling, except for barbecued meat. The forward prices for the new front month of June 25 are €1.84/kg. Hardly any price increases are expected in the summer months. Exports slowed significantly in April. Customs policy is slowing down the export business.

Brazil: Producer prices have stabilized further at €1.75/kg. The export business is running at record levels. In April, results were 40% above the previous year's level.

China: Prices remain unchanged for the time being at € 2.45/kg. The month of June 2020 is quoted at € 2.26/kg on the Dalian exchange, with similar prices being traded in the summer months. In China, summer prices are at a seasonal low. Imports are showing slight upward trends at a reduced level.

Conclusion: Persistently tight supply and increased demand are driving up prices without much leeway. Support is coming from the increasing demand for barbecues. Obviously, missed slaughter days do not play a decisive role in live sales.

ZMP Live Expert Opinion

Persistently low live supply, low stock levels and increasing (barbecue) demand are driving prices up again. However, the range remains very narrow. The loss of slaughter days has become less frightening in terms of price pressure in the live cattle market due to the low supply volumes.
