In Italy , the listings in the 46th week of 2022 were kept almost unchanged at €2.07/kg . The domestic live supply is called up to cover demand, but the meat market is under price pressure from imports. In Spain , prices in the 46th week of 2022 fell by -1.5 ct/kg to a comparable €2.16/ kg. The domestic supply of live animals is increasing, even animals for slaughter are imported.but the high Spanish price level makes it difficult to sell meat compared to the offers of the EU competition at home and abroad. In the USA/IOWA , prices have fallen further to the equivalent of € 1.80 /kg . The weaker dollar exchange rate has contributed to this. Battle numbers have increased slightly. However, piece prices are falling across the board. For the front month Dec.-2022, the forward rates are quoted at €1.80/kg . Brazil: Producer prices have fallen to €1.64/kg on average with declining REAL. However, there was little movement in domestic currency. Hopes are placed on increasing sales due to the soccer World Cup and the upcoming public holidays. Exports to several Asian importing countries support hog prices. China: Prices have fallen back to the equivalent of € 5.08/kg . The exchange rate has weakened again. The forward rates for the month of Jan.-2023 are still traded at around €4/kg.In the spring months of 2023, prices are expected to fall further to €3.66/kg with increasing supply and the usual seasonal decrease in demand. Conclusion: The low number of pre-registrations indicates that there will be a shortage of live stock in the run-up to Christmas. The prices for parts when passed on to the food retail trade are trending upwards again. This leads to more stable producer prices. Nevertheless, meat sales remain the critical problem.

ZMP Live Expert Opinion

Low pre-registrations signal a low supply of livestock in the future. A trend towards rising sales prices for cuts for trade and processing indicates that the meat supply is rather limited. Hopes are pinned on the pre-Christmas business. with reinforcement through the first of December. However, expectations should not be set too high this year.
