In the USA/IOWA , producer prices have fallen back to the current €1.81/kg. Cut prices have also fallen. Stocks in cold stores have risen compared to the previous month. Brazil: Producer prices have risen again to an average of €1.53/kg. Production losses due to the floods in Rio Grande do Sul are leading to tighter supplies for domestic and foreign business.
China: Prices have risen significantly to € 2.84/kg. The previous reduction in stocks is leading to lower supply while demand remains stable. The month of Nov-2024 is being traded on the Dalian exchange at prices of around €3.09/kg. Prices are expected to fall to €3.02/kg in Jan-2025.
Conclusion: Despite the low live supply and low cold store stocks, there is no room for upward price movement so far. Nevertheless, it is expected that price increases will be possible in the near future due to full slaughter weeks, increasing barbecue activities and the European Football Championship. The ASF outbreak has put a damper on prices for the time being.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
The long-held hopes of an improvement in demand for meat have not yet been fulfilled. The low live supply in the past holiday weeks was just enough to stabilize the price level. Nevertheless, expectations remain high in view of future full slaughter weeks, more barbecue-friendly weather and the European Championships.
