ASF: As of July 23, 2024, 5,823 ASF-infected wild boars have been detected in Brandenburg, Saxony and Mecklenburg. Around Groß-Gerau (northwest of Darmstadt in Hesse), 43 ASF-infected wild boars have now been found. The new cases cross the state border into Rhineland-Palatinate. Market and price developments in selected competitor countries:

In Denmark , the comparably calculated prices of €1.68/kg were reduced by -6 ct/kg in CW 30, 2024.

In Belgium, the comparably calculated prices of €2.01/kg remained unchanged in CW 30, 2024.

In the Netherlands , comparable prices of €2.03/kg will remain unchanged in week 30, 2024.

In France/Brittany , prices remained the same at € 2.13/kg . Slaughter numbers continue to fall to 320,187; slaughter weights are at 95.71 kg.

In Italy, prices rose by a further +3 ct/kg in week 30, 2024. Meat sales are boosted by rising numbers of holidaymakers.

In Spain, the unchanged price of €2.41/kg in week 30, 2024 reflects the short live supply. Live supply remains low. The start of the vacation season is boosting domestic sales, while the high price level is slowing down exports.

In the USA/IOWA , producer prices have stabilized at € 1.70/kg. Slaughter figures have fallen again. Stocks in cold stores have fallen. Cut prices have risen for the most part. Market prices for the summer barbecue season are quoted at current levels. However, forward prices for Dec. 24 only average €1.59/kg.

Brazil: Producer prices have stabilized at an average of €1.68/kg. A smaller live supply, rising domestic demand and brisk export business have contributed to this. Flood-related restrictions are playing an increasingly minor role.

China: Prices have risen to €3.13/kg. Reduced supply continues to meet with seasonally stable demand. The month of Nov-2024 is being traded on the Dalian exchange at prices of around €3.02/kg. Prices are expected to fall to just under €3/kg in Jan-2025.

Conclusion: Despite limited demand during the holiday/vacation period, prices remain stable at a reduced level. Live supply is not higher due to the summer temperatures.

ZMP Live Expert Opinion

In view of the school vacations in all federal states and the company vacations in the processing plants, demand remains comparatively stable. However, stable prices are primarily due to the low live supply, which will continue to increase seasonally for the time being. However, increasing production and limited demand are expected for the coming fall months.
