The processing market appears to be firmer in the second calendar week of the new year. IN THE Rhineland, prices are rising. For the in-demand batches of the Innovator variety, Reka raised the previous price by 2 euros to 25 euros/dt. Fontane and Challenger also increased by 2 euros to 22 euros/dt. Overall, contract goods continue to dominate the market in effective trade. Top qualities usually remain in the warehouses; when free quantities are traded, they are usually problematic goods. In Belgium, however, the market is extremely quiet. Since hardly any sales were registered here, Belgapom did not issue a listing on Friday. Factories are said to be signing initial contracts for the coming crop at higher prices compared to last year's crop. Early varieties with a July delivery date are currently priced at 25 euros/dt, which is 2 euros more than in the previous season. Varieties from the main harvest are currently being sold for 17.50 euros/dt. For varieties such as Innovator and Zobra, between 26 and 31.20 euros/dt are even mentioned. Market participants are also expecting surcharges for France. The price has recently remained unchanged, but since most of the critical lots have now disappeared from the market, there are good signs of increasing demand. Crop losses in France are estimated at a few hundred hectares. Deforestation is no longer worthwhile here. Prices on the food market are rising. Refrigerated goods in crates in particular can now achieve storage surcharges of up to 5 euros/100 kg across all cooking properties. Most of the warehouses have now been cleared. Extensive cross-regional shipments continue to take place from the north to the south and export business to Eastern Europe is also going well.
