Prices for processing potatoes are rising significantly. The Reka quotes 32 euros/dt for Agria, Fontane and Challenger, and 33.60 euros/dt for Innovator. Factories are actively searching again, a little earlier than expected. Belgapom and PotatoNL also increased their prices for processing potatoes this week. According to the latest statistical surveys, in France and Belgium there are only small inventories of unsold goods. The free quantities are still available to a small extent, but the vast majority have already been sold in both countries. Uncertainty only remains in the Netherlands. Speculations as to what unsold stocks the local farmers still have in their sheds sometimes vary widely. As Fiwap reports, plantings in Belgium are making little progress. In most growing areas it is too wet and sometimes too cold to start planting potatoes. According to Fiwap, not even 10 percent of the targeted new potato areas have been planted for the Flanders region. A similar phenomenon is also reported from Great Britain. Here the majority of the early varieties will probably only be able to get into the ground from this week or so. The EEX has significantly increased both the trading volume and the price structure for the April contract. At the top, 33.50 euros/dt were traded today. Four contracts were also traded in the April 24 date, but here the price has fallen from the previous level. There is no such euphoria on the food market . Due to the good availability of stored goods in the north, the switch to imported potatoes in southern Germany and the generally still relatively quiet export demand, hardly any price increases are expected.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
Processing potatoes started a spurt after Easter. The few quantities that are still available are particularly in demand in Belgium. The food market is still hardly moving. Price surcharges at the end of the season currently unlikely.
