Both yesterday and today there were contract transactions on EEX again. With 3 contracts (75 tons) on Thursday and one contract (25 tons) on Friday, the traded quantities are more than manageable. The picture on the table potato market remains unchanged. Depending on the region, potatoes are more or less scarce. There is already a gap here and there between the clearing of the goods that are premature in film and the next big clearing campaign. Firm-boiling varieties are described as particularly scarce. Producers can achieve prices above 70 euros/dt. For the south and east of Germany, more goods are expected in the coming weeks, which will be cleared on a larger scale. However, high yields are not expected on the fields, especially in Bavaria and Saxony. Buyers in the food market are increasingly faced with competition from processors. They no longer have any goods available from the old harvest and the processing potatoes are also well behind schedule. In Belgium, fried potato prices also remain high. The last transactions of the old harvest will probably take place in the course of this ortake place over the next week, according to traders, the market will then be completely cleared. Some producers resort to imported potatoes from Israel, Spain and Egypt, the first early varieties are coming, but they are very few. These are tubers that were planted unusually early and grown under foil and irrigated. The first trial clearings in Flanders show that the main harvest is still a long way off. The tubers are three to four weeks behind their actual development.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
The mood in the market for processed potatoes as well as for food is firm. The late planting in spring and the drought in May and June have meant that the main harvest will take place later. Even if there is still little to say about the qualities, the new potato year is starting at high prices and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
