The potato market in Europe is currently in a decisive phase. Despite adverse weather conditions in many European countries, demand remains stable and consumption is also robust. However, with the gradual appearance of new seasonal varieties on the market, available stocks are becoming scarcer.
Early planted varieties in particular have suffered from the unfavorable conditions after sowing, which has led to yield losses. This has led to a cautious outlook for the market, as everyone involved needs to keep a close eye on availability for the new season.
Across Europe, people are eagerly awaiting the new harvest and wondering when sufficient quantities will be available for processing. The temporary closure of many factories for maintenance is increasing the pressure on the market. Belgium in particular is facing challenges as sowing was delayed, resulting in a shortage of early processing crops in July. Sufficient quantities are not expected to be available until mid-August.
Despite these difficulties, some early table varieties have already been harvested and prices remain stable. It reflects the level of the previous year; a usual price drop at this time has not yet occurred.
