Potatoes remain scarce at the beginning of August and the rainfall of the last few days in particular continues to cause difficulties in the lifting work. According to the first results, the connection varieties do not show higher yields. In some regions, packers of ware potatoes in particular are sourcing more and more goods from outside the region in order to be able to meet demand. The price structure therefore remains stable and with a view to the gradual end of the holiday season, many market participants in the food retail sector are again expecting impulses from private households. The first clearings from Belgium have been disappointing. Market participants expect earnings to tend to be below average. In addition, the heavy rainfall means that the work hardly progresses. The processors are cautious on the market and many buyers are hoping for falling prices. In this country, the range of industrial goods is small. Here, too, wet fields are causing delays in the clearing work. The deep-frozen fries factories have largely switched over to the new harvest, so that market participants are expecting a larger marketing program in the coming weeks.
ZMP Live Expert Opinion
Market participants are currently focusing on the weather. The clearing work would be in full swing if it weren't too wet in many places. So far, however, the yields do not seem to be as high as hoped. Many buyers are currently waiting and are reluctant to enter into new contracts in the hope that prices will fall. With a view to the coming week, there is much to be said for a stable price level.
