2nd GDT auction prices in Mar. 2025: 0.0 %
The second Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction in March 2025 closed with an average of 0.0%. The individual monthly results were very mixed and varied. Among the major products, only normal butter recorded a positive overall result of +1.1 %. Auction volumes continue to decline due to seasonal factors.
Whole milk powder (VMP) (approx. 50% auction share) continued the downward trend of the previous auction with -1.8%. There were considerable price reductions in all delivery months. China's reluctance to buy as the largest trader was clearly evident. The VMP price level fell to 3,711 €/t.
Skimmed milk powder (SMP) (approx. 25% share) fell slightly again this time by -0.4% after a small upward correction in the previous auction. There was only a strong increase for April. At the equivalent of €2,499/t, absolute SMP prices remain in the average range of previous years. The Chicago prices are at €2,483/t and the EEX prices in Leipzig are at €2,478/t.
Prices for pure butterfat (approx. 10% share)again fell significantly by -1.8% on average. There were noticeable reductions in almost all delivery dates. The range extends from -1.4% in Jul.-25 to -2.8% in Apr.-25.
Normal butter (approx. 8% share) continued its positive trend with an average increase of +1.1%. Prices have been at peak levels for months. Prices rose to € 7,022/t, taking into account the higher € exchange rate. EEX Leipzig is quoted at 7,454 €/t and Chicago prices are around 5,213 €/t for the March 25 term.
