Danish pig exports to the Jan 2015 at the height

Danish pig exports 2014 again increased - what is 2015?

In the last 10 years Denmark has its pig exports from 3 million units to almost 11 million euros in the year 2014 was more than triplet cause of this development limit of pig farming because of the environmental protection legislation. As sow housing is less stressful to the environment, piglet production was increasingly promoted. Even mast piggeries were converted for the rearing of the young animal.

Increasing numbers of piglets per sow quickly resulted in surpluses of piglets in their own country.  The neighbouring country Germany had focused at this time on construction of pole barns and neglected sow housing.

In the initial phase , almost 90% of the pig went to Germany, the proportion is between 55 to 60% today. Increasingly the Danish pig go after Poland reaches a size of now 3.5 million animals a year.

Further destinations are Italy Romania Czech Republic Croatia, and even in the Netherlands, Bacon pigs are exported.

For by 2015 is only with a small increase in exports of pig to expect. The Danish sow numbers have risen only slightly and the productivity in piglets services has reached a first peak. There is also the desire to the utilization of fattening and slaughter capacity to keep as many piglets in the domestic.

More than 1 million pigs were exported in January 2015 . The month of February 2015 was significantly weaker due to the low days. Exports to around 800,000 units dropped significantly in March 2015 . How effective was only a common season or already a cyclical effect, is yet to be decided.

Exports to Germany seem to have reached a saturation limit detectable for 3 years with a magnitude around 6.5 million pieces per year .

In any case, the Polish marketis receptive. Sow housing there is structured with an average of 10 sows per holder small and uncompetitive. Polish sow housing is systematically at every difficult stage of price. Since joining the EU in 2004, Poland has already lost 40% of its holdings of sows. For Denmark a relatively obvious exporter for excess Danish piglets.
