Pig exports of the Netherlands in the first half of the year: growing share of Germany
The big boom period of piglets export gains from the Netherlands belongs to the past. The increase for the first half of 2014 is only 0.9% compared with previous years prior to 2010 with double-digit growth rates compared to the same period last year. Switching the Dutch pig farms on higher shares of sows is a consequence of reduced pollution as they are caused by the pure pig. Holland finishing surfaces are tightly limited.
Germany has, however, increasingly on the pig and created an surplus of mast sites . At the same time weak piglet prices as compared to the pig prices in the period before 2010, the mast appeared more economical than producing piglets. Sow housing in Germany has shrunk so much that it has developed a growing piglets import requirement of currently 11 million pigs per year.
Approximately 50% of the Dutch piglets after Germanywere still in 2010. Today, there are already 62%. The High German pig deficit leads to attractive prices relatively low transport costs from the Netherlands in the border North West finishing Center.
Compared to Holland the Danish pig exports increased significantly more in recent years. But Germany's share has fallen from previous 70% to 55%.
