Piglet trade between northern European EU States

Pig exports of the Netherlands and Denmark

The two EU Member States Netherlands and Denmark have begun due to their breeding density more than a decade ago, to reduce the pig and to switch to the less land-intensive pig production .  The result of this conversion process is an ever-growing piglets export in other EU Member States with pig import requirements.

Increasingly in recent years, it crystallizes out that happened the Dutch export volume to its limits . For a good 5 years, pig exports from the Netherlands stagnate the magnitude from 6 to 6.3 million animals. Exports have been declining even in the first half of the year 2015. Only in the 3rd quarter, a moderate recovery is observed.

Germany is the largest buyer of Dutch piglets. But also in this case the quantities at the level of about 4 million animals continue to stagnate for several years.

Spain and Poland were important customer countries in earlier years. Can now even be self-sufficient in Spain. The paragraph goes back to Poland for reasons of increasing export competition from Denmark.

Danish pig exports have, however, risen in recent years further annual export volume by nearly 12 million animals is the scope. But the Danish shipments to Germany remain stagnant for several years at the level of approximately 6.5 million piglets.  Increasing Danish quantities going in the direction of Poland; 2015 is expected with a paragraph of about 4 million piglets there. While some synergies arise with Danish pigsty fitters, feed plants and slaughterhouses.

Germany is Europe's biggest importer for piglets. About 20% of the pigs that are fattened in Germany come from the pig imports from Holland and Denmark. Poland imported now similar to large amounts of share, because your own sow housing is too small-structured set up.

Recent price developments will lead to an increasing intensification in the development of competition .
