Regionally and structurally modified sow housing in Germany

10  Years structural change in the German sow housing: less animals larger stocks, regional shifts. The German sow housing approximately 0.5 million animals and 20% has shrunk in the past decade from 2005 to 2015. The resulting reduction in the volume of piglets has been started, partly by increasing productivity and by imports of piglets. Replace pig imports of approximately 11 million animals at an average performance of piglets by 25 piglets per sow per year approximately 0.44 million sows. The average sow stock more than doubled from approximately 100 animals on current 215 sows per stock. The reduction of sows stocks took place particularly in the lower stock size class. During 2005 barely 30% of sows in stock below of 100 animals were held there are only 16% 2016 beginning. On the other hand the shares of sows in the upper class of stock size have risen significantly. Today 25% of all sows are kept in the Group of 200 to under 500 sows. The stock size classes of units over 500 sows achieved the largest share with about 30%. 2005 the percentage figures approximately on half of today's values were.   In the individual federal States are to observe significant changes. Rhineland-Palatinate with a stock reduction of 15,000 pigs and 50% belongs to the relatively most affected regions. Baden-Württemberg loses with 110,000 sows or 40% of his original holdings. Bavaria maintained 120,000 sows and 32% less. The Hessian sows stocks have shrunk in same order of 32%.    For all southern provinces is to give economically as a cause to small business and stock sizes for the reduction. The former pig surplus area with more than 4 million animals is only able to meet the regional needs. In the strongholds of the pig and sow housing Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia have been slaughtered each final between 110,000 and 120,000 sows. This corresponds to about 20% of the original stock. Nevertheless, the two federal States deny together unchanged 47% of all German sows. Rose, however, sows stocks by 15 to 20% in the new Länder Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt . In Thuringia, the animal figures could well contend. Highly competitive big attitudes dominate in these countries.    The recent livestock census by the may 2016 showed the national average a reduction of 3.3% for the Nov. 15-count. In all provinces, the sow numbers ranging from 2.7% in Saxony-Anhalt were reduced to 13.3% in Saxony-Anhalt. In large countries, Lower Saxony were 5.7% and 7.1% fewer sows in North Rhine-Westphalia.
