Bad weather limited the Bulgarian wheat harvest to 4 million tons by 2015. That is the opinion of a member of the Bulgarian Association of corn producers. It would make the harvest to 18% less than in the previous year. The late sowing and a smaller acreage are stated as reasons.
The farmers came in the fall not on the wet fields, so that 20% of the land could not be ordered. Some few areas were first ordered in December. With 4 million tons of wheat, the power supply (2 million tons) is ensured and the same amount would be for export available. Traditionally, Spain, Italy and Portugal are buyers of the Black Sea neighbor.
The Ministry of agriculture in Sofia is currently conducting an extensive monitoring and will publish the results at the end of the month with a first estimate of the crop.
