All in all, corn prices on Euronext/Matif hardly moved yesterday. The contracts also did not show a uniform direction. For the June date it went up by 0.50 euros/t to 239 euros/t. In the 43rd calendar week of the current marketing year, 269,637 tons of maize were imported into the EU. The import counter is now at 22.65 million tons, which is already 6.22 million tons more than were imported in the entire last marketing year. Spain remains by far the largest importer of corn within the European Union. Corn went south at the CBoT. Lower ethanol production weighed on trading on the one hand. In addition, the export business is perceived as difficult and tough and the US corn sowing is still making good progress. Canada's statistics agency expects a higher corn acreage in the North American country compared to the previous year. According to the figures, corn is to be planted on 3.72 million acres for the coming harvest, which is 100,000 acres (around 40,468 hectares) more than a year ago.
