10th case of ASF in China - this time it is no longer a backyard mastiff

China has reported another case of African swine fever (ASF). It is the tenth case since reporting exactly one month ago when the first case was ever discovered in China.
The Ministry of Agriculture reports that 22 animals have died of ASF and 62 are infected. The farm near the city of Chuzhou has 800 mast places. It is the fifth outbreak since last Sunday in the Anhui region, where the ASF is now spreading very fast.
However, the disease has already overcome great distances in China, the country with the largest pig population in the world. Two cases were discovered near the Russian border and the southernmost is Zhejiang province in the south. In between there are more than 3,000 kilometers.
The farm, which is affected today, has, in contrast to the previous farms, a relatively large number of pigs. So far, smaller farms were affected, which are referred to as Hinterhofmäster. There are hygienic measures applicable only limited.
The Chinese authorities believe that, among other things because of the ASF, the demand for animal feed in China will fall and that less soybeans will need to be imported than in previous years.Because of the trade dispute with the United States tries to keep the soybean imports from there as low as possible.
