Grain loads in Paranagua, Brazil's second largest Atlantic port, were resumed yesterday. The 24-hour absence of 214 port workers previously paralyzed the loading activities at the berths.
Crew members of a ship had tested positive on Corona. In the port of Paranagua, it was the first known corona case since the pandemic broke out. The port authorities react exceptionally strictly.
The sick crew member is a Philippino who is now being treated in the hospital. The results of his other colleagues are not yet available. The ship is now in quarantine. The quay on which the ship is docked can load 40,000 tons of soybeans a day.
This example shows that even a small disturbance can interrupt the loading of grain. So far, this has not had a particularly large impact on Brazil's overall agricultural exports. Brazil reports new export records every month. It looks similar in May.
