50th ASF case - now also affected China's south

The Chinese Department of Agriculture reports this morning from the 50th outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) since the beginning of August. This time a farm with 119 pigs in the south of the country is affected.
Meanwhile, ASF cases have been reported in 14 Chinese provinces. China has the largest herd of pigs in the world. In the south of the country, there is the largest pig density and the largest consumption of pork.
The government in Beijing has banned the feeding of kitchen waste to pigs, as well as the transport of live animals. Slaughterhouses have already been closed in order to prevent the spread of the disease against which there is no vaccine.
Nevertheless, viruses from sick animals have been found in the food chain and sausages already in neighboring countries and in Taiwan.
